It makes intuitive sense to believe that the foods yuo eat literally shape the way you look. Try to picture a person
who eats a diet of fast-food burgers and fries, pizza, potato chips and ice cream, and washes down everything with gallons
of Coke. Now picture a person whose diet consists of fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats and fish and whole grains and
whose beverages are limited to water and green tea. Chances are that in your mind's eye you saw Person 1 as overweight and
flabby and Person 2 as trim and toned.
But do dietary choices show up on our skin? In 1970, Dr. Gerd Plewig conducted a study in which he gave one group of
subjects chocolate and another group a placebo and found that the candy had no impact on the subjects' acne.(1) Ever since,
dermatologists have been denying the existance of link between diet and skin problems like acne.(2) The American Academy
plainly states that "acne is not caused by the foods you eat." (3)
